Preparing national plans for Science Education.

Planning provincial science education in accordance with national policies, providing instructions and monitoring.

Implementation of local and foreign capacity building programs for teachers / in-service Advisors / Science Subject Directors to improve the achievement level of Science subject and providing allocations for provincial level programs and monitoring them.

Implementation of teacher student programs associated with environment through Science Field Education Centers spread all over the country and to improve those centers as Innovative mind centers.

Identification of the requirements of Science teachers and submitting recommendations to fulfill those needs.

Tendering recommendations for purchasing Science equipment and chemicals for school laboratories.   

Providing approaches to policy-based dialogues, proposals etc. connected with science education.

Providing proposals / recommendations regarding the preparation of model question papers related to science subjects of G.C.E. Advanced Level and G.C.E. Ordinary Level.

Building relationship, coordination and organizing programs parallel to the science subject with the Universities, other ministries and other various institutions related to science education (Ministry of Environment, Sri Lanka Nuclear Energy Board, Sri Lanka Sunithya Energy Authority, Sri Lanka Vidyabhiwardana Society, and National Science Foundation etc.

Providing feed-back to the relevant institutions for the preparation of Science text books and syllabuses.

Bring about special education opportunities for gifted students. eg. Olympiad Tournament, Young Scientist Tournament.

Coordination with National Institute of Education, Educational Publications Department and Provincial Education Departments in relation to the activities of Science Branch.
