Function of Branch

Submission of relevant policy proposals depending on a study related to Mathematics education and its revelations and assisting to national policy formulation on Mathematics education.

Formulation of short term and long term plans through the identification of key strategies of Mathematics education and implementing them annually.

Coordination and progress reviews with zonal and provincial Mathematics subject Directors and the development of teaching and learning process of Mathematics within schools through that.

Preparation of circulars, guidance and instructional manuals for the development of the subject of Mathematics.

Coordination with the National Education Commission, National Institute of Education, Educational Publications Department and the Department of Examinations and other institutions for the implementation of policies related to the subject of Mathematics.

Involving directly with “curriculum framework”, “evaluation framework” and “learning teaching process” connected with the new transformative educational activities.

Creating the necessary background for all students to acquire mathematical literacy in line with the ‘Mathematics for All’ policy and holding remedial educational programs.

Holding continuous capacity building programs based on new teaching methods, approaches, concepts building and measurement processes for teachers and organizing professional development programs for In-service Advisors and Subject Directors and establishing provincial pools of individuals.   

Providing digitalized educational opportunities of Mathematics.

Further developing the Mathematics learning environments through “Mathematics Learning Galleries”, “Ganithagara” and “Mathematical Instruments”.

Creating a research culture based on Mathematics education.

Organizing the co-curricular programs such as “school Mathematics societies”, “Child Mathematician”, “Creative Teacher” and “All Island Mathematics Competitions” to popularize the subject of Mathematics.

Provision of Mathematics skills development opportunities for gifted students (through national and international Mathematics Olympiad competitions.)
