Function of Branch

The basic function of this branch is to take actions for providing correct and updated data and information of the field of education based on the information obtained from the annual school census. Providing relevant educational data and utilizing data in the teacher and student online data systems maintained by this branch.

Furthermore, contribution is offered for educational planning review and evaluation activities through the provision of educational data and information from this branch. Similarly, provision of special educational data for Sri Lanka Parliament, Central Bank, President’s Office, Prime Minister’s Office and other ministries.

Similarly, actions are taken to provide the data related to pre-school, general vocational, data such as students, teachers, physical resources, cost of education etc. about higher education and data on participation in education and literacy data according to ISCED level to the UNESCO. For the preparation of these data, the educational data obtained from the Department of Examinations, Educational Publications Department, the Department of Statistics, the Ministry of Local Government, University Grants Commission, Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, National Institute of Education and provincial coordinators of pre-schools are utilized.

Obtaining the approval from the Department of Management Services for the school academic staff according to the circular for deciding academic staff that should be in a school (circular 6/2021) and making amendments to the circular when it is necessary. Calculating the teacher shortages and excesses based on it.

Depending on the requests of the branches, providing the calculations for school quality inputs based on the NBUCRAM.

Providing opportunities for external parties through publishing basic educational data and information on ‘EDUSTAT’ page in Data Management Portal of the website of the Ministry of Education.
